Take in

Take in pode significar abrigar, angariar aguém para algo ruim (geralmente usado na forma passiva “taken in“) ou apertar (roupa). Exemplos:

“Our neighbor took us in while our house was being fumigated.” (Nosso vizinho nos abrigou enquanto nossa casa estava sendo dedetizada.)

“I lost so much weight that I had to take some of my clothes in, otherwise I wouldn’t have anything to wear.” (Eu emagreci tanto que eu tive que mandar diminuir algumas das minha roupas, senão não teria nada para vestir.)
