Hear something through the grapevine significa ouvir algo de maneira indireta, por meio de outras pessoas. Exemplos:

“I heard through the grapevine that you are moving.” (Eu escutei por aí que você está de mudança.)

“Is true that you are engaged? I heard through the grapevine. Congratulations!” (É verdade que você ficou noiva? Eu escutei por aí. Parabéns!)
